Hiking on a glacier is hard to describe because I don’t really have anything to compare it to. It’s melting and breaking apart in one place while it’s also expanding on an entirely different side a few hundred miles across.
This glacier is massive, and the water is the purest I’ve ever tasted. Our guide surprised us with a spot of whiskey near the end and remarked that it was probably the only time the ice in our drink would be older than the aged drink itself. I’m sure he’s right. Here are some photos of my breathtaking experience.
Looking out at a glacier is one thing, but to walk on one is quite another.
